Vinyl is often used because of its duration. The same thing makes it a headache to those who want to get rid of it because it lasts for a long time (does not rot). In extreme weather, however, vinyl is less durable than wood and masonry. Stormy wind can get underneath the thin sheets of vinyl siding and lift a panel from the wall. However, developers are working on making vinyl stronger and less brittle. Nowadays, when a vinyl siding panel gets punctured, you have to change the whole panel. Patching is not possible. The developers are working on inventing “patchable” vinyl panels.
For a fresh look you should wash vinyl siding every now and then. However, you have to be careful not to puncture the panels with your equipment. Roof leaks, faulty gutters, or other sources of moisture should be repaired without delay to protect the vinyl sidings from rotting and breaking.
You can choose between several colors for your vinyl siding but bear in mind that when you need to replace one of the panels, the ones on the wall can be bleached and the new panel might not match. Vinyl may look very similar to wood but the house that has ornaments should always be shielded with wood panels.
