How to install cedar shingles? | |
Installing cedar shingles on the walls or roof of your house is a wise choice – cedar shingles are very durable – they can resist hailstorms, rain, wind and whatnot the weather may come up with and provide exceptional insulation ate the same time. The cedar shingles are something a little different from the usual vinyl sidings or simple tin roofs used – it is a little more elegant and therefore pleasing to the eye.
- Firstly, you should create a proper underlaying using a type of building paper – consult the experts at your local building store to know the right one for your walls;
- start installing the shingles form the bottom of the wall, use two nails on each side to fasten them to the wall and cover the nails and part of the shingles with the next layers – this is called concealed or hidden nailing;
- the shingles usually vary in width, so you may trim them a little in corners or near the edges of windows, doors, etc;
- as installing cedar shingles is quite a difficult process, we recommend you consult an expert before you start to work to give you all the necessary details taking into account the specialities of your house or wall surfaces.
