Aluminum Siding?

I live in the desert region of S. California and I notice that all the houses have stucco siding. My question is why don't they use aluminum siding. I am from the East Coast oringinally and when I was driving home yesterday the thought occured to me.

1blowing sand would be pretty rough on it, noisy too.
